Why Inquiry-Based Learning?
An old adage says: “Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand.” The last part of this thought is the essence of inquiry-based learning. Inquiry begins with gathering information and data by applying the human senses — seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling. Inquiry leads to involvement and then to understanding. It’s this involvement in learning that develops children’s skills to seek resolutions to questions and issues while constructing new knowledge. They learn to create a context and an overview, which prompts more sophisticated levels of questions. A model of well-designed learning, based in inquiry, encourages knowledge-building skills that can be applied throughout life.
Why Focus on Multiculturism?
In most countries, the ability to speak more than one language is considered a critical part of a good education. Studies show that speaking two or more languages increases cognitive ability and improves executive function throughout a lifetime. In the decades ahead, 80% of global economic growth will take place outside the United States. English, Mandarin, and Spanish are now emerging as the three most-spoken languages in the world and those who can speak, read, and write them fluently will be at a great advantage. Backed by an exceptional education and a strong social emotional learning curriculum, Oasis students will have increased opportunities in the job market, and the ability to use what they’ve learned to make the world a better place. We teach a wide range of socially significant skills to equip our students with the necessary knowledge, abilities, and outlook to become global leaders, change-makers, and ambassadors for the 21st century.
